    The sustainable tourism organization of rural spaces. The island of Sardinia in the era of "staycation"

    Abstract. What future for tourism in the COVID-19 era? This is a question that has become part of the daily life of many tourist destinations. The pandemic has affected all economic sectors and tourism is one of the sectors most suffered. According to data from the World Tourism Organization (2021) due to the health emergency 100% of countries have introduced restrictions in the travel sector and for this reason international tourist arrivals dropping by 74% in 2020. Future projections indicate 2023 as the year when a the "regular" flow of tourists can be recorded globally. However, in the meantime, there is a need to improve this sector by implementing strategies to promote and enhance the places to motivate sustainable tourism. The insecurity of travel and of some destinations, due to the many emergency restrictions, pushes tourists to live an outdoor vacation in contact with nature and host community. Thus, the search for authentic places moves minds more consciously towards sustainable tourism practices showing a greater interest in some forms of tourism such as rural and cultural.The aim of this work is to understand how to deal with the "new" needs of the demand, bringing out the rural realities through the creation of an organized sustainable offer that revolves around existing accommodation facilities such as farmhouses. In particular, the case of Sardinia will be analyzed, an island that has long been known for its seaside tourism, but whose rural and internal areas are still not much used touristically. The study intends, after a short review of the literature on the sustainability of rural tourism, highlight the possibility to create rural tourist itineraries capable of enhancing the territory's peculiarities by combining the different landscape assets. The exemplification of the creation of these routes will be realized in GIS field through the creation of a model of accessibility to the Sardinian rural space. This model will be based on the use of isochronous curves obtained from the analysis of travel times both to move towards and from the agritourism that offer accommodation and within their landscape offer

    Testing the equality of two coefficients of variation: a new Bayesian approach

    The use of testing procedures for comparing two coefficients of variation (CVs) of independent populations is not extensively explored in the Bayesian context. We propose to address this issue through a test based on a measure of evidence, the Bayesian Discrepancy Measure, recently introduced in the literature. Computing the Bayesian Discrepancy Measure is straightforward when the CVs depend on a single parameter of the distribution. In contrast, it becomes more difficult when this simplification does not occur since more parameters are involved, requiring often the use of MCMC methods. We derive the Bayesian Discrepancy Measure and the related test by considering a variety of distribution assumptions with multiparametric CVs and apply them to real datasets. As far as we know, some of the examined problems have not yet been covered in the literature

    Balanced electron-hole transport in spin-orbit semimetal SrIrO3 heterostructures

    Relating the band structure of correlated semimetals to their transport properties is a complex and often open issue. The partial occupation of numerous electron and hole bands can result in properties that are seemingly in contrast with one another, complicating the extraction of the transport coefficients of different bands. The 5d oxide SrIrO3 hosts parabolic bands of heavy holes and light electrons in gapped Dirac cones due to the interplay between electron-electron interactions and spin-orbit coupling. We present a multifold approach relying on different experimental techniques and theoretical calculations to disentangle its complex electronic properties. By combining magnetotransport and thermoelectric measurements in a field-effect geometry with first-principles calculations, we quantitatively determine the transport coefficients of different conduction channels. Despite their different dispersion relationships, electrons and holes are found to have strikingly similar transport coefficients, yielding a holelike response under field-effect and thermoelectric measurements and a linear, electronlike Hall effect up to 33 T.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    Evolutionary conservation of a regulative pathway of erythropoiesis in Poikilothermic vertebrates

    Apoptosis, programmed cell death, plays a central role in haematopoiesis. Mature erythrocytes of non-mammalian vertebrates maintain a permanent nucleus; these cells can undergo apoptosis (eryptosis), as do other somatic cells of a given non-mammalian vertebrate. In this study, we have investigated the expression and subcellular distribution of Bcl-2, Bcl-XL and Bax proteins in the maturation phases and after X-ray irradiation of nucleated erythrocytes of Torpedo marmorata and Caretta caretta and the effect of X-ray irradiation on nucleated circulating erythrocytes of Torpedo marmorata. The cellular distribution of proteins was detected in erythrocytes by using immunocytochemistry at light microscopy and immunoelectron microscopy. The electrophoretic separation and immunoblotting of pro- and anti-apoptotic proteins of immature and mature erythroid cells was performed too, after X-ray irradiation of torpedoes. The results of the immunocytochemical analyses show an increase, in the expression level of Bax in mature as compared to young erythrocytes and a corresponding decrease of Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL. This maturation pattern of Bax, Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL was abrogated in X-ray irradiated torpedo erythrocytes. On the basis of these observations, Bax, Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL seems to play a role in the erythropoiesis of Torpedo marmorata Risso and in Caretta caretta. In conclusion, the same apoptotic proteins of somatic cells appear to be conserved in circulating nucleated erythrocytes thus suggesting to play a role in the maturation of these cells

    Clinical Effectiveness and Pharmacokinetics of Dalbavancin in Treatment-Experienced Patients with Skin, Osteoarticular, or Vascular Infections

    Dalbavancin (DBV) is a lipoglycopeptide approved for the treatment of Gram-positive infections of the skin and skin-associated structures (ABSSSIs). Currently, its off-label use at different dosages for other infections deserves attention. This work aimed to study the clinical effectiveness and tolerability of DBV in outpatients with ABSSSIs, osteoarticular (OA), or other infections, treated with either one or two 1500 mg doses of dalbavancin, for different scheduled periods. A liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry method was used to measure total DBV concentrations. PK/PD parameters and the clinical and microbiological features of this cohort were evaluated in order to investigate the best predictors of treatment success in real-life settings. Of the 76 screened patients, 41 completed the PK study. Long-term PK was comparable to previous studies and showed significant differences between genders and dosing schedules. Few adverse events were observed, and treatment success was achieved in the vast majority of patients. Failure was associated with lower PK parameters, particularly C(max). Concluding, we were able to describe DBV PK and predictors of treatment success in selected infections in this cohort, finding DBV C(max) as a possible candidate for therapeutic drug-monitoring purposes, as well as highlighting the dual-dose one-week-apart treatment as the optimal choice for OA infections

    Monitoring Tacrolimus Concentrations in Whole Blood and Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells: Inter- and Intra-Patient Variability in a Cohort of Pediatric Patients

    Tacrolimus (TAC) is a first-choice immunosuppressant for solid organ transplantation, characterized by high potential for drug-drug interactions, significant inter- and intra-patient variability, and narrow therapeutic index. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of TAC concentrations in whole blood (WB) is capable of reducing the incidence of adverse events. Since TAC acts within lymphocytes, its monitoring in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) may represent a valid future alternative for TDM. Nevertheless, TAC intracellular concentrations and their variability are poorly described, particularly in the pediatric context. Therefore, our aim was describing TAC concentrations in WB and PBMC and their variability in a cohort of pediatric patients undergoing constant immunosuppressive maintenance therapy, after liver transplantation. TAC intra-PBMCs quantification was performed through a validated UHPLC–MS/MS assay over a period of 2–3 months. There were 27 patients included in this study. No significant TAC changes in intracellular concentrations were observed (p = 0.710), with a median percent change of −0.1% (IQR −22.4%–+46.9%) between timings: this intra-individual variability was similar to the one in WB, −2.9% (IQR −29.4–+42.1; p = 0.902). Among different patients, TAC weight-adjusted dose and age appeared to be significant predictors of TAC concentrations in WB and PBMC. Intra-individual seasonal variation of TAC concentrations in WB, but not in PBMC, have been observed. These data show that the intra-individual variability in TAC intracellular exposure is comparable to the one observed in WB. This opens the way for further studies aiming at the identification of therapeutic ranges for TAC intra-PBMC concentrations
